Course Description: This course is a high school level mathematics course that covers all standards and concepts outlined in the ESHS Geometry curriculum. This is also an accelerated course, both due to the accelerated timeline of the course and the expectation of the students in the course. This geometry course covers all Euclidean geometric concepts. Students will develop a familiarity with plane geometry including: points, lines, planes, and geometric shapes, and the transformations, constructions, comparisons, and measurements of these shapes. Students will also develop their understanding of and ability to construct formal logical arguments and proofs, within a geometric setting. In addition to these concepts and skills, students will apply previously learned Algebraic skills within the context of geometric problems and reasoning. Prerequisites: In order to be eligible for this course, a student must have earned at minimum a passing grade (70%) in their previous Algebra I course. It is recommended that only students who have earned an 85% or higher in their Algebra I course, enroll in this course, due to the speed and rigor of the summer program. Advancement Opportunity: The purpose of this course is to accelerate 8th grade or high school students through the next level of their mathematics courses, with the goal of taking Algebra II the following school year. ESHS would like to see students leave this course with a minimum course grade (each semester) of 80% (rubric level ”3”). If a student were to earn a grade lower than 80% either semester, the student would take Geometry AB during the next regular school year. If a student were to earn higher than a 90% both semesters, the students would be eligible to take the Algebra II Honors course the following school year. School appropriate behavior is expected at all times. Students unable to meet these behavioral standards will be dismissed without refund. |
