AP Literature is an academically rigorous course, preparing students to read, evaluate and think critically about life through the writings of great authors. In preparation for the school year, students who elect to take AP Literature are required to read two novels over the summer, and they will be required to write an analytical essay about them when they return to school in August. The summer readings for 2014 are Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut and One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. This summer school class will provide directed discussion and analysis of these works that will enhance the student's understanding necessary for critical evaluation and assessment of the literature, something students miss when they are not reading a work in a classroom environment. The class will be held Monday thru Thursday, 8:00 am to 10:30 am. On Friday students are to read assigned chapters for the following week's discussion. In addition to the literature, students will practice writing and analytical skills required to pass the AP Exam in May. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
