Web Pages Made Simple
1.
Open Microsoft Word
2.
Type in what you would like to see
3. Arrange the colors and background to your taste
4.
Save as “web page” or “html”
a. If this
is a home page and you want others to see this as the first page at your
web site and have other pages linked to this page as a type of table of
contents, then you need to save this page as “index”. If you have no
preference, you may call it anything you wish, but your viewers will not
automatically see this page unless they know the url.
b. All
subsequent pages may be called whatever you wish.
5. To link other pages, click on “insert” and then click on
“hyperlink”. Then select the “URL” (uniform resource locator). The url will
probably begin with the http:// for example http://www.genconnection.com
6. To insert images, tables and pictures, you must first save
your web page in a file. Then (from outside of your MS Word application) you
must find your image and then name it and save it in the same file as your web
page (for convenience and management). Next click on “insert” and then click on
“picture” - select the image from the file you created and click on “insert”.
The image should probably be a “gif” or a “jpeg” (the kinds of images most
frequently used on the web – the following image is a jpeg created from a
digital photo of my son’s drawing).

7. Remember, as always when working in the cyber-world, save
your work often – just in case of mishap.
8. When your work is completed, you will be ready to “upload”
the page onto the web server (which is another lesson).
