Part A Lessons Lesson 1 Internet Research
- Using Google, AltaVista, HotBot,
or some other search engine find both reputable and unreliable sites that deal with the
topic of questionable authenticity. Topics could be about aliens or
Roswell, Nazis, denial of the Holocaust, hoax sites, Internet scams,
etc. You will present your findings to the class. Be sure to
demonstrate how you know your sources are reputable (see
description and requirements of reliable sources). Set up a
table that lists both reputable and unreliable web sites and explain how
you made this determination. See this handy
tutorial to help you evaluate the information you can obtain from
the Internet. Part C. Find the answers to these set of questions. Use only the Internet. If you need a clue - ask the librarian. But you must use only the Internet. you will need to tell me where you got the information so keep track. Part D. Find all the homework help, download term papers, and student help information pages you can. Everyone must have at least five sites. The person with the most unique sites (sites no one else has) will earn extra credit. Part E.
Team Research Project . Sponsored by ExploraVision. "Imagine the
Future, Invent the Future" Lesson 2 WEB Publishing - This lesson will depend on your current abilities. Proceed to the level of experience below and work on that lesson. Email me at raygen335@hotmail.com to tell me which project you will be working on.
Lesson 3 Hyper-Text - In a group, write a hypertext document that will research a major player in cyberspace and technology. Your research may center on a person, organization, or phenomenon. You must (1) write at least two pages of your own, (2) link to Internet pages that pertain to your topic and (3) link to other students' pages within the class that pertain to your topic. For an examples see a student's hypertext on Hiroshima that she wrote for my English class. Another example is my research on technological change. Lesson 4 Graphic Manipulation - Take a digital photo or a picture of something you scanned or acquire on the web and change it. You need to show (Part 1) the original picture, (Part 2) an enhancement/improvement of that picture, (Part 3) four or five creative changes to that picture (see examples of parts 1-3), and (Part 4) a creation of a new picture by pasting of layering something else to change the content of that picture (see example of part 4). Lesson 5 Signage, Picture, Icon - Signage is text. A picture is a photo. An icon is an abstract representation that can be recognizable as being symbolic of its antecedent. You are to create a page that has these three elements that represent you. See example. Lesson 6 Tech Journal/Periodical/Magazine Report - Read a technology related article and report it to the class using and electronic medium of your choice. Please include full bibliographic information. Author, Date of Publication, Title, Title of Journal, Publisher, (electronic source if applicable). A copy of the article is needed along with your report. Your report should include a summary, your analysis and recommendation about the article's position. Lesson 7 Newsgroup Discussion - Each student will participate in an online discussion regarding relevant topics. Use the following link to participate in the discussion. Lesson 8 Reverse engineering - As you design your own sites, it would be good to analyze other sites to see how they are engineered. This lesson requires you to pictorially represent the navigation of a site by using a flow chart. For this assignment, please reverse engineer the following site http://www.elsegundousd.com/ESHS/wasc/index.htm Lesson 9 Design your own academic site - Design your own electronic portfolio that will showcase your electronic work for this class. Your web site should utilize hyperlinks, essential graphics and images, multiple pages. Lesson 10 E-mail (asynchronous communications) - Good e-mailing skills are essential for the 21st century. Using proper etiquette, e-mail me (using cc or bcc) after you have exchanged a series of e-mail replies about a technological topic. I should see at least 4 replies. Properly use an attachment and send me a list of good URLs for this class. Lesson 10 Synchronous Communications - Communicate synchronously with at least one other person in class using ICQ or AIM. Your topic of discussion should center around technology. A log is required as proof of fulfilling this assignment. Part B Do an electronic class presentation (not including this class) In another class, create and deliver an original class presentation using either the Web, CD, PowerPoint, or some other electronic medium or application. Your teacher must sign off that you did this. You will present it in this class as well. Part C Help a teacher develop an electronic presentation Teachers are often the last to receive technology training. This assignment requires you to contact one of the teachers here at ESHS and help that teacher develop an electronic presentation of some sort. Part D Class Research Project The entire class will study, research, resolve and electronically publish a real world problem. Parameters of this study will be discussed in class. The first research project will involve the use of the Internet. Perhaps in the future, we can study an environmental concern or a community service project. Cool Stuff to check out.
