by John Steinbeck
This touching novel speaks of the elusiveness of the American Dream. There's no gaurantee that what we dream will become a reality. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence the people have a right to "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness." Pursuing happiness does not guarantee its obtainment. Jefferson borrowed these concepts from John Locke who wrote about the right to "life, liberty, health and property." It's noteworthy as we read this novel to keep this change in mind.
